I live in a large apartment building right above a restaurant space that’s being renovated and turned into a new restaurant. For the last month or so,
construction crews have been completely gutting the restaurant, including loud, distracting, headache-inducing jackhammering off-and-on every work day from about 9 to 5. They are following all laws and keeping everything within daylight hours, which is good, but it’s much worse than the “occasional drilling or hammering noises” mentioned in an email to residents.
Do we have any recourse here? I don’t want to get in the way of construction on the restaurant, nor do I think I’d be able to, but is there any way to get them to be quieter or ensure that they wrap up the work as quickly as possible? It’s definitely not easy to work from home while my apartment is inundated with a literal jackhammer throughout the work week.”
