The 5pm Post – cellar door house features the honey dewdrops Feb. 4th in Capitol Hill

“Dear PoP,

My name is Allison Manuel and I (with my husband Coite and friend Greg) started hosting DC house shows (826 7th St. NE) about a year ago. These shows are generally acoustic, alt-country, or indy in nature…or maybe just thoughtful? :)

check out our fan page here.

We usually have about 50 people attend our shows and it’s simply for the sake of creating good music in a home. I generally attract artists already on tour and are up for a different sort of venue. We have recently hosted: Chris Staples, Jill Andrews of the everybodyfields, Damien Jurado, Denison Witmer and others. Each time, we draw in about 50 people and the artists charge 10 dollars for entry with the artist taking the full cut. We generally offer to cook the band dinner or take them out and just make sure hospitality as well as getting a good solid audience gathered happens.

We have an upcoming show for a folk/bluegrass band called “the honey drewdrops” next friday (feb. 4). We have our fingers crossed for some other artists this spring… It’d be great to let the dc world know about these shows.

RSVP here.”

Sounds fun.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
