Dear PoPville

Update: All Good! Trees planted like this on purpose

11th and Rhode Island Ave, NW

Update from Dog Daze Social Club: “The team reached out to their landscaper who provided more info: “The burlap and tiny ropes are biodegradable from the nursery and designed to stay on the tree when planted. The tiny ropes are in place to make sure the base root of the tree does not sway or detach from the rootball.”

“Dear PoPville,

situation at the new dog social bar (Ed. Note: Dog Daze) at the corner of Rhode Island and 11th. The contractor didn’t remove any of the burlap around some of the trees… I hope that they don’t die! Free the trees!”

Utah State University says:

“Treated burlap (the kind you’re most likely to encounter) will not decay quickly (can take decades) and, though roots may grow through it, those roots may be damaged or constricted as they grow in diameter. Remove all treated burlap or synthetic burlap (also likely to decay slowly) from root balls at planting time.
