“Dear PoPville,
I wanted to flag a weird situation that unfolded on my doorstep last night (Monday) and see if anyone else has had this happen. A little past 9pm a man came to our door and rang the doorbell a couple of times (which seemed kind of aggressive, especially considering we have one of those signs on our door asking people not to ring the bell bc of the sleeping baby). When we answered the door the man claimed to be from DC Air Quality Control and said that he was following up on a request made about our address. He seemed to be hinting that someone had lodged a complaint that we were responsible for. He quickly flashed a badge but it was dark and he never identified himself by name.
Nothing about this seemed legit so we asked him to leave and told him
it was not appropriate to be coming to the door so late and ringing the bell if he was in fact from “DC Air” — which was when he started to get pissed off. Long story short, the interaction ended with us closing the door and he rang the bell AGAIN a couple of times, at this point waking up my 6 month old, so i kindly told him to get lost and he finally left our stoop. I don’t know what the intent was.. whether it was a scam or if it was actually an attempt to get into our house under false pretenses. When I called DC Air Quality Control they assured me that they would NEVER send someone to a residence at 9pm and that this was definitely something to be wary of and to call the police if he came back.
Anyone else have this or something similar to this happen to them in Mount Pleasant or the surrounding areas?“
