“Help family recover from house fire”

via GoFundMe

The GoFundMe says:

“Hello, I am Yeira Melara, a 21-year-old who recently experienced a life-changing event. On April 14th at 12:40 am, our house caught on fire. It was a terrifying moment as my two brothers and I smelled smoke coming from my room. We rushed to find flames already engulfing the area. In a panic, I tried to douse the fire with water, but it spread rapidly. Next thing I see the fire spreading to my bed the flames started to get bigger and bigger. In the panic I tired to find the fire extinguisher but I wasn’t able to locate it. I started panicking until my 17 year old brother told me “yeira it’s too late we have to go” I knew in that moment that I had no choice but to evacuate…

Our priority became ensuring the safety of my brothers, our uncle, and our three beloved dogs. Fortunately, my brother was able to wake up our uncle in time(he was in the third floor), and the firefighters rescued our three little chihuahuas.

When everyone was safely evacuated we’re told to stand in the side walk across the street. All I recall is sitting in the sidewalk watching the firefighters braking all the windows and trying to clam the fire. I watched the house I was born in raised in being engulfed in flames …this is all we had. Watching it all crumble down while having my small Chihuahua shivering in my arms was significantly devastated.

Our family of four adults, five kids, and three dogs is now facing the daunting task of rebuilding our lives from scratch. The funds raised through this GoFundMe campaign will be crucial in helping us rebuild the foundation of our home and meet basic necessities like food, clothes, and shelter.

This fundraiser is not just about rebuilding a house; it’s about rebuilding nine
lives that have been deeply impacted by this tragedy. Your donation, no matter how small, will go a long way in supporting us during this challenging time.

We humbly ask for your generosity and also for you to share our story. Your kindness and compassion will make a world of difference as we work towards recovery.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, support, and compassion.

With love and gratitude,
The Melara family”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
