“Prince George’s county animal shelter”

“Dear PoPville,

Acknowledging you’re a DC- focused entity, BUT I wanted to email a little plea to our local neighbors to consider fostering animals from Prince George’s County. Currently, the county still has a breed ban which means that any dog labeled pit bull can only be adopted or fostered by residents outside the county. Currently pittie advocacy group End PG BSL is hard at work to end the breed ban and improve shelter conditions, and we are hoping for the best for our loyal companions. But until then, like so many shelters, the county shelter is suffering from overcrowding, and is therefore euthanizing all owner-surrenders on intake, and has taken actions such as euthanizing all sick dogs before local partner rescues were able to pull any out. Every other day rescues are getting lists of dogs on the urgent list which are only being given 24-48 hours to find a new home.

Many local rescues are working tirelessly to pull these dogs out of the Prince George’s County shelter, which only has space for 175 dogs in a county of over 1 million. But we can’t do it without more homes outside the county. If you’re interested in becoming a foster, please consider reaching out to Laila’s Rescue, AAHA, or Lucky Dogs or your favorite local rescue to see if they can and will pull dogs from the shelter. While pitties are the highest euthanized at the shelter due to the ban, there are a wide array of highly adoptable dogs right now – like Dawson below, a Siberian Husky.”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
