Magnificent Bar News: Owners of Solly’s (John and Neil) taking over former Truxton Inn space – New Bar to be called Gold Clover Bar

251 Florida Ave, NW

And a very happy Friday prior to a three day weekend to all!! My goodness this is great news for Truxton Circle/Bloomingdale/LeDroit Park and fellow drinkers throughout the District of Columbia. When Truxton Inn announced their closure last June folks were understandable bummed. Fortunately, the best possible scenario has come true for the neighborhood – a proper neighborhood bar is coming to be called Gold Clover Bar. I sat down last night for a brief chat with John Solomon and Neil Morgan of Solly’s (obviously.)

You’ll have to forgive the brevity of this preview as I met them at Solly’s and well let’s just say I consumed one too many of John’s famous margaritas and I’m paying for it this morning. Unfortunately there will be no margaritas at the forthcoming Gold Clover Bar. By the by, I’m told if all goes well they could be able to open as early as in about a month!!

Back to booze, at Gold Clover Bar you’ll find about 6-10 beer options (cans and bottles) as well as a few classic cocktails. There will be no food options but you’ll remember this premier location is right next to the delicious Meat & Foods, which you’ll be able to bring inside Gold Clover Bar. In fact you can bring in food from anywhere you want. And not just inside, which will boast about 48 seats, but also, as we approach spring, the outside will feature a great patio with seating for around 40!

Back to the bar. We’re talking a real neighborhood bar, as one can expect from the proprietors of Solly’s. Speaking of which the GM will be a name/face many recognize – Antoine Lyers of Lucky Bar (RIP), Red Light and of course Solly’s fame. In addition to being a welcoming spot for all, Gold Clover Bar will be adding some TVs and will show anything from the English Premier League (again, RIP Lucky Bar), to NFL games to anything you request. Neil, John and Antoine have been doing this a long time so I have very high expectations.

Stay tuned for an exact opening date and photos of the space as they get closer to opening.

Ed. Note: I’d be remiss to not mention that after 17 years Solly’s remains one of the best freaking bars in DC. Every single time, a good time. The foggy mornings are well worth it.

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
