JUST IN: Sticky Fingers Diner closing on H Street, NE this month

406 H Street, NE

From a press release:

“Sticky Fingers Diner, the woman-owned all-day Diner, Bakery, and Bar by Doron Petersan, announced today that its 406 H Street NE location in DC will close. The last day of service will be Sunday, February 25th.

Operator/Owner Doron Petersan said that while the company’s retail and wholesale bakery sales show strong growth, sales at the Diner, which opened in 2016, have declined over the past year. She said that the company made the tough but necessary decision to focus on areas of growth. Petersan and team will help Diner employees find other positions either with Sticky Fingers or at nearby restaurants.

“We have loved being part of the H Street neighborhood, and we are so grateful for the 8 years of community support. We will miss seeing our neighbors and guests who have become part of the Sticky family. But this isn’t goodbye, it’s see you soon. We look forward to serving you through our grocery partners like Streets, Foxtrot, Whole Foods Market, Yes! and MOM’s with our packaged items, our direct shipping program, and of course our retail outlets in NoMa and Takoma, DC. While it’s hard to leave, we can’t wait to see what pops up next in our former home in the Atlas District,” according to Petersan.

“While we’re all sad to see the Diner go, I feel proud of what we created and how hard our team worked to serve this welcoming community. Sticky Fingers Diner (formerly Fare Well) was part of the plant-based movement in DC. When the Diner opened in 2016, it was a challenge for our customers to find good food that met their dietary requirements and matched their values. As a consumer, business owner, and advocate, I feel heartened by how many more vegan options DC residents, including me, now have.”

When One Oven Door Closes, Another Opens

In January, Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats opened a new production facility and flagship bakery in Takoma, at 314 Carroll Street, and last October it opened a satellite bakery in DC’s NoMa neighborhood, inside of Streets Market at 51 M Street NE. Petersan said her team can’t keep up with demand from the community in Takoma, and has been selling out of baked goods faster than they can fill the shelves.

“Trends change in neighborhoods and cities, and in order to stay relevant and keep our doors open and our ovens hot, we have to change with them,” Petersan said.

100 Spots to get Your Sticky Fingers Fix

Sticky Fingers’ retail and wholesale sales are booming. In addition to the new Takoma and NoMa locations, DMV residents can now get their favorite Sticky Fingers treats at more than 100 retail outlets in the DMV, and across the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and Southern regions of the US, including Foxtrot markets, Streets Markets, Whole Foods Markets, MOM’s Organic Markets, Yes! Organic Markets, Peregrine, and Odd Provisions, among others.

The bakery also sells, treats and baking mixes online at StickyFingersBakery.com, and offers catering and custom cakes locally. The production facility will support Sticky Fingers’ growth as well as helping other like-minded companies grow via co-packing and white labeling.

“The plan has long been to create a facility to support Sticky Fingers’ growth in the food service, direct to consumer, and consumer packaged goods arenas, but also enable other companies to launch and grow. We are a mission-based business, promoting items that are free from animal products, but also making plant-based products more widely available and accessible. This production facility, the culmination of 5 years of planning and building, allows us to grow in ways beyond our brand that are true to our mission,” Petersan said.”

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
