“Ice in bike lanes”

K Street

“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to publicly shame the city for failing to clear some bike lanes (and bus stops) of snow and ice when the adjacent roadways have been completely cleared.

I rode my bike to get coffee with a friend, only to find that K St NW between 4th St and 5th St was covered in ice and snow, which is extremely dangerous and forced me to ride in the road to avoid slipping and falling. That section of the street also has a bus stop that crosses over the bike lane that is completely iced over, so not only a hazard for cyclist but also folks trying to use this bus stop. The 9th St NW bike lane was also partially obstructed by snow, and I’m sure there are many others throughout the city that haven’t been properly cleared. Despite the city’s stated efforts to make biking safer and more accessible, failure to clear bike lanes of snow and ice is just another example of the city prioritizing cars over people.”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
