Dear PoPville

“13th and Allison St NW – School Alarm – been going off throughout the night and day for about a week”

“Dear PoPville,

I live with my husband and 10-month old daughter and we’ve recently been shocked by the DC police’s lack of response to school alarm systems going off at all hours of the night and day.

The emergency alarm system at Dorothy Height Elementary has been going off throughout the night and day for about a week (and for about a month prior to this, but less frequently). See attached video.

In this video I talked to the policeman on site and he pretty much said the DC police can’t help. The school has to complete a work order to fix the alarm system. But due to the holidays they’ve been unresponsive.

I’ve called 311 multiple times, I’ve also reached the DC school police line multiple times. I reached out to Ward 4’s Councilwoman, Janeese Lewis George, and she never responded. I’ve been in touch with the mayor’s office but it’s been a week with no resolution.

Any suggestions on who to reach out to?

Feeling hopeless in Petworth as my baby can’t sleep!”
