“Crime and VERY delayed police response…”

“Dear PoPville,

This is from a good friend and coworker who lives on Pennsylvania Ave a block or two east of Eastern Market. Happened last night, she’s so shook up she took the day off work.

Last night at about 11:45 PM, their neighbor noticed a man

was masturbating in the alley between their two adjacent houses, and then tried to break into the neighbor’s homes. The neighbor has him on camera trying to open the door and shoving his body into the door to try and pry it open. My friend and her girlfriend pulled up right as the neighbor was confronting him for trying to break in, and started filming at this point—the guy started to charge the neighbor but she pulled out pepper spray and sprayed him with it. He was wearing goggles, but it at least stopped him. He then pretended he had a gun and was about to shoot them.

The neighbor’s 15-year-old daughter initially noticed this guy and called her mom (the neighbor), who called the police right away. My friend then called the police when she arrived. They didn’t respond for an hour and a half.

When they did finally show up, they didn’t talk to my friend or her girlfriend, they just spoke to the neighbor and left.

The guy was tall, had a red jacket on, grayish long dreadlocks, and dark pants. They guess he was older, 45+.

I’ve heard that response time in DC has gotten bad, but I can’t believe this. I’m encouraging my friend and her girlfriend to file a complaint with the DC police and reach out to Charles Allen’s office.

I LOVE DC but it’s scary to be a woman in this city!!! What the fuck!”
