Update: Double Homicide in Columbia Heights. Saturday Night Shootings

From MPD: “Alert: Shooting Investigation in the 1400 block of Girard Street N.W.. Lookout for a black, male, white shirt and blue shorts”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, July 22, 2023, in the 1400 block of Girard Street, Northwest.

At approximately 9:53 pm, Third District officers responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male shooting victim at the listed location. Shortly after, a second shooting victim was located in the 1400 block of Fairmont Street, Northwest. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victims remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Decedent #1 has been identified as 29-year-old Luke Whitaker, of Northwest, DC.

Decedent #2 has been identified as 19-year-old Zion Hollingsworth-Hayes, of Silver Spring, MD

Update from MPD: “Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Sunday, July 23, 2023, in the 1500 block of 7th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 1:37 am, officers responded to the listed location in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male shooting victim inside of an establishment. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was captured by surveillance cameras and can be seen in the photos below:

Anyone who can identify this suspect, or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.”
