“Takoma Park Bookstore Opens Tuesday!”

“People’s Book Opening in Takoma Park. Independent bookstore opening this Tuesday!”

From an email:

People’s Book is excited to announce its launch this Tuesday, June 27th in the heart of Takoma Park at 7014-A Westmoreland Ave. The store has a diverse selection of over 12,000 books, with a special focus on childrens’ literature, local interests, new releases and independent magazines. The inventory also includes book-themed gifts, locally roasted drip coffee, kombucha, and other beverages and treats. A grand opening celebration will be announced at a later date.

“We’re so excited to provide readers of all ages opportunities to explore, learn, and connect with their neighbors,” said Megan Bormet, store owner and former elementary school educator. “Helping kids and adults find books they love is what I like to do best, and I’m thrilled that we can do this at People’s Book.”

People’s Book has ten book clubs and several author readings scheduled for this summer. On July 2, the store will host its first event, the Green Way Reading Series, a poetry dialogue series curated by Elizabeth Bryant and Takoma Park’s Poet Laureate Taylor Johnson. The store will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 9AM-6PM, Friday and Saturday from 9AM-8PM and Sunday from 9AM-5PM.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
