“St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations in the District?”

Ed. Note: Don’t let a little construction out front dissuade you and head straight to Nanny’s (3319 Connecticut Avenue, NW) next Friday!! (or your closest Irish or Irish-ish pub!)

“Dear PoPville,

Are there any St. Patrick’s Day celebrations hosted in DC? I am assuming the pubs will have music, but are there any organized events? Which weekend will they occur on, since St. Paddy’s is on a Friday this year.”

From the The St. Patrick’s Parade Committee:

“We look forward to gathering and celebrating with all of you on March 12th!

The St. Patrick’s Parade Committee of Washington, D.C. plans on gathering on the National Mall and marching to F St NW, followed by an afternoon of festivities. The Committee, along with other groups, dance schools, bands, etc. will start assembling at 11:00 AM at the Peace Monument and at 12:00 PM, walking towards the Holodomor Memorial (map attached below.)

Everyone is welcome! We hope that you can join us throughout the afternoon, whether at the March or at a gathering throughout the afternoon supporting the bars, restaurants, and partners celebrating Irish Culture in the community.

We will be gathering near the Peace Monument by 11:30 AM (intersection of Pennsylvania Ave NW and 1 St NW.) Parking is available near the Monument, F St NW, or 5th St NW. This march will be limited to walking, dancing, etc. No floats, cars, or motorized vehicles will be allowed at this time. If you have questions regarding logistics, or what you can or cannot bring, please reach out to the chair at [email protected].

From 12:00 PM onward, live music and Irish dancing will take place throughout the afternoon at Kelly’s Irish Times and the Irish Channel. Starting at 3:30 PM, join the St. Patrick’s Parade Committee at the Irish Channel where we will be helping to raise funds for The Belfast-Beltway Boxing Project. All proceeds from the Parade Committee donations/ sales that afternoon will be donated directly to The Belfast Boxing Project. Live music that afternoon will be featuring Bob Sullivan and Irish Dancing will be featuring the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance. Additionally, the annual wreath-laying ceremony at the Police Memorial will take place later in the afternoon, with announcements being made at all venues regarding timing.”

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
