Dear PoPville

“How to Help Without Stigmatizing?”

“Dear PoPville,

I was at Target on NY Ave and there was a man who was having a mental issue of some sort. He was yelling at “someone” about his house and that they shouldn’t “come around anymore.” At first i thought he was yelling at me, but as I walked by he didn’t change his focus and there wasn’t anyone else in the aisle.

He was middle aged, seemed well groomed and had a bag from what looked like it a water and a 7-11 hot dog box.

He wasn’t hurting anyone at all, but I was super worried about him, for him. I wasn’t confident that the staff would handle things and didn’t want to call 911 because, again, he wasn’t hurting anyone or himself. But feel like i should have done something.

Wonder what others might have done.”
