“Matt Barry, who led Tysons Corner Center for the last four years, will be overseeing a new effort to revitalize Union Station as its new General Manager”

From a press release:

“Matt Barry, who led Tysons Corner Center for the last four years, will be overseeing a new effort to revitalize Union Station as its new General Manager, Rexmark announced today. Tysons Corner is the nation’s premier mixed-use property, including a shopping center with more than 300 retailers and 2 million square feet, a hotel, office buildings, and apartments.

Barry’s arrival comes as Union Station is already seeing an upswing. Foot traffic has increased by 177% year to date, and the station will soon be announcing plans to reopen numerous retail locations in addition to new leasing — the first since the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

Barry has a strong record of success. While working at real-estate giant Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, he successfully led three Maryland regional shopping and commercial assets and was the operations manager for Visit Baltimore, in which he marketed the City of Baltimore as a destination for tourism and conventions.

Since Rexmark took over at the helm of Washington, D.C.’s largest and busiest transportation and shopping center in August 2022, there have been many improvements to enhance the customer and transit experience at the property:

Increased security presence
Upgraded the level of cleaning of the property
Upgraded lighting inside and outside to enhance visibility at all hours
Retaining current tenants, bringing back past tenants, and introducing new tenants
Deploying Station Ambassadors throughout the station to provide a level of hospitality experience worthy of a world-class destination
Attracting new events and expanding event space

“As one of D.C.’s greatest landmarks, Union Station is poised for a comeback, and I could not be more excited to join the team leading this effort,” said Matt Barry, General Manager of Union Station. “I look forward to working with this new and dedicated management team to increase foot traffic, gain new retail and commercial office interest, and restore greatness to Union Station.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
