“Dear PoPville,
The National Park Service has said that after 11 years of permit approval, Stonewall Bocce DC can no longer be played on Logan Circle. Please help us keep Bocce on the Circle!
Our enrollment has consistently expanded over the past 10 years to include hundreds of local residents looking to enjoy the park in the center of our neighborhood.
The best part about it is 95% of the participants walk or take public transportation to participate and an equal number disperse to local bars and restaurants afterwards. I am sure if you asked any restaurant in the area that they notice a significant uptick in business at 730pm on Thursdays.
Now the NPS is saying that we must go to the Mall to play because we require ‘fields.’ While it is absurd to call 6 cones laid down in the park a ‘field,’ it is equally absurd to call the quality of the surface in the circle ‘grass.’ The NPS’s neglect of the park is noticeable. At the very least our group helps the safety of the park on dark evenings.
Please publish our petition to keep Logan Circle as the center of our league and our neighborhood.”
