I wanted to write about a scary incident my friend and I had in Dupont around 7:00 pm last night. We were standing at a crosswalk waiting for the light in front of the circle, and a man approached us. He got very close to me and I assumed he was going to ask for money when he instead hunched down and said in a high-pitched voice, “Hi I’m Elmo” which he repeated a few times.
I was very taken aback and frightened as he was aggressively close to us. I looked around to lock eyes with another person and saw a man approaching, and then said to my friend, “let’s cross now” despite the crosswalk not having changed yet. We began crossing the street and I could hear the Elmo man doing the same to the man I had locked eyes with. The Elmo man also got in this guy’s face saying the same “Hi I’m Elmo”, as the guy repeated back to him “you need to back up man” over and over. The Elmo guy eventually stopped following him and we all three crossed.
Just wanted to give a heads-up as this was obviously very creepy in general but the fact that he aggressively was getting in our faces was very scary. He was wearing a blue shirt and yellow pants. Wanted to warn others in case it continues.“
