From an email:

“Calypso Coffee and Ice Cream will celebrate the grand opening of its first location on Saturday, October 22nd. At the opening, Calypso will offer free ice cream and coffee between 12 and 2 p.m.

Located in the Trinidad neighborhood in Washington, DC, at 1730 Trinidad Avenue, NE between H Street and Union Market, Calypso Ice Cream & Coffee is a neighborhood ice cream and coffee shop, featuring ice cream, coffee drinks and teas, and locally made pastries.

Calypso is the first retail project for the residential real estate investors. After purchasing the building and renovating the apartments, they had to decide what to do with the retail space on the first floor. Explains their representative Twee Nguyen, “Our hope is that Calypso will become a neighborhood gathering place and show others that Trinidad is a place to visit. Serving smiles, we are excited to serve the Trinidad residents and surrounding community.”

Calypso Ice Cream & Coffee is named both for the Trinidad neighborhood and after the Caribbean country or island, Trinidad & Tobago. The owners commissioned prominent muralist Erik B Ricks to paint the colorful mural on the side of the building, which features the bright colors of Carnival, including hummingbirds, mixed with Ricks’ signature style of geometric shapes.

Store Hours:
Wednesday-Friday: 8:00 am-8:00 pm,
Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 am-8:00 pm

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
