“In my handful of years living in this building, I’ve been locked out of my own apartment more than 25 times.”

“Dear PoPville,

In my handful of years living in The Apollo Apartments in H St NE, I’ve been locked out of my own apartment more than 25 times. It’s because of these horrible keyfobs they use.

Basically, the batteries inside the door that read the fob are insufficient, lasting only 1 month or so. Every time they die, I get locked out. Then I have to wait for maintenance, which has taken anywhere from 20 minutes to 3+ hours to get to my door, depending on when I get locked out. It’s happened when I’ve had cold groceries in my hands, when I had to be home and online for a work meeting, etc.

I’ve spoken to maintenance about it every time and they say it happens to everyone in the building constantly, and when I’ve emailed the Apollo management about it, they give a non-answer and don’t do anything to fix it.

It is the main reason I am likely going to be moving out once my lease ends. I wonder if anyone else has had similar experiences at other Bozutto-owned properties in the city?”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
