“Help Asylum-Seeking Family of 5 Secure Housing”

photo via GoFundMe

The GoFundMe says:

“Hi, my name is Marissa, and I am fundraising for a family of 5 fleeing Venezuela’s violence, corruption, and poverty. The family is seeking asylum here in the United States with hopes of a better life for their 4-year-old, 10-year-old and 13-year-old.

This family has been living with my husband, toddler, and me in our home while we help them get on their feet in a new country. The three children are enrolled in our local elementary and middle school, and the parents hope to set down roots in our community. We are raising funds to help them pay rent on an apartment in the neighborhood so that the children’s schooling is not interrupted and they can focus on building a secure life here in D.C.

Would you consider donating to this family’s rent fund to provide them a safe place to call home? While the cost of living is high in Petworth, D.C., we know that they will have the support of a loving, welcoming community. Any donations will be deeply appreciated.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
