“Dear PoPville,
I’m hoping the hive mind can help me with this crazy estimate to move my gas meter.
As part of a renovation, I need to move my Washington Gas meter from inside the basement to outside (just on the other side of the wall). Washington Gas contracts with third party vendors to do the work. In this case it’s Miller Pipeline. I was floored when I received this estimate today of over $6,000 dollars.
The person who came out to see the property (different person from the one who creates estimates) said that the homeowner is responsible for moving the meter, but if the service line needs to be upgraded, that part is Washington Gas’s responsibility. Because I have old steel pipe, I believe they are charging me for tearing up the yard and street to upgrade the pipe. I’ve called the company that sent the estimate but they have not returned my call.
I could be wrong, but this seems like price gouging because this company can get away with it since it’s so hard to figure anything out with Wash Gas.
Specific questions below, but any advice is appreciated!
1) Does anyone know who is responsible for upgrading the service line in this scenario (from the home to the street)? Washington Gas (regular rep and supervisor) did not know
2) What is RSCON?
3) If this company is charging me for what Washington Gas should be responsible for, what recourse do I have/who can help me?”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
