Multiple Shootings around DC Last Night (including 6 in NE, 1 of whom was killed)

Update from MPD: “Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, August 1, 2022, in the 1500 block of F Street, Northeast.

At approximately 8:28 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located six adult male victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, one of the victims remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The additional five victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The decedent has been identified as 24 year-old Lance Melvin, of Southeast, DC.”


“8-12 shots fired, 20-30 people running afterwards, Newton Pl NW and Georgia Ave NW” around 9pm

From MPD:

“The Fourth District is currently on the scene of a shooting in the 700 block of Newton Place, NW. The victim is an adult male, shot in the upper body. There is no lookout at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Command Information Center on 202-727-9099, or send an anonymous text tip to 50411.”

MPD also reported shootings:

“The Fourth District is currently on the scene of a shooting in the 5200 block of Chillum Place, NW. The victim is an adult male shot in the upper body. No lookout at this time.”

and

“Shooting Investigation in the 200 block of Oglethorpe St NE. No Lookout at this time.”

“Alert: MPD is on the scene of a confirmed shooting in the 2800 block of Gainsville St SE. Look out for a black sedan. Do not take action, call 911. I20220385013”

“Alert: Shooting Investigation in the 1600 block of Fort Dupont Street SE. Lookout for (3) B/M. Suspect(1) is wearing black ski mask, black hoodie, last seen in a Gold VW sedan.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
