“Dear PoPville,

A friend of mine (Esubalew McCarthy) who has worked in DC restaurants for over the past 10 years had a stroke in late June. Luckily, Esu is doing well, but also faced with mounting medical bills and will be out of work for an extended period of time.”

The GoFundMe says:

“Beloved Friends, Family, and Patrons, lend us your ears! ( and maybe some dough,)

One of our own recently has had a pretty serious health scare. While Esu is on a long road to recovery, he will need some help to cover his medical bills, personal necessities, and time away from work. We know how beneficial it is to have an extra bit of help, to reduce anxieties no one should have to live through while they recover.

Meet Esu! Esu is our kitchen manager here at The Midlands, and has worked alongside us in the kitchen since our Kangaroo Boxing Club days. Keeping our bellies and hearts full, he has always been an instrumental part of our professional and personal crew. From Nats games and brewery tours, to a packed house on a Saturday night, you can guarantee Esu cracking jokes and lightening the room. Ten years of being part of our family, and we all hope for so many more together.

He is family, our friend, and the one who keeps us laughing no matter what happens. He is our rock and we are raising anything we can to help him recover with ease. We would love as much support as we can get to make sure he gets to focus on recovery. Any and every bit of effort helps, from donations to simply sharing our campaign. We are always grateful for our village, and appreciate you all so much for giving us some of your time.

Wishing you all health & goodness,

The Midlands”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
