Dear PoPville

“Question about short term leasing or corporate housing at major apartment buildings.”

“Dear PoPville,

We live in a modern new development. It has recently come to our attention that many of the units are being rented out to short term tenants for anywhere from a weekend to a week.

Turns out it is through a company called “Churchill Living” (furnishedhousing.com/). There are many DC properties listed. The management companies (e.g. Bozzuto, Greystar etc) seem complicit in the process as they are listed as partners (also, front desk hands out keys to the customers).

They are raising our rent 15% so naturally this frustrates us to seen them renting available units in the more lucrative short term market. Is this legal under zoning laws, the new short term rental laws or other laws?

Furthermore, what about the deals/contracts the developers made with the DC gov when developing these projects. Certainly they guaranteed some buildings be for long term living?
