“Juniotónico: a Gintonic Festival”

From Estadio (1520 14th Street, NW):

“The Gintonic (yes, sans ampersand) is a very important cocktail to Spanish culture. Aside from Spain being one of the world’s top gin-consuming countries, over the years, the Spanish have created a unique drink vastly different than the traditional English version, known for its bulbous glassware, quality tonics and elaborate garnishes. Long hailed for its own innovative Gintonic menu with seasonal, weekly-rotating flavors, Estadio is once again celebrating Spain’s favorite cocktail for the third year in a row (after a two-year pandemic hiatus), with the 3rd Annual “Juniotónico: a Gintonic Festival” from Monday, June 6 through Thursday, June 30.

All month long, Estadio will showcase creative Gintonic cocktails & slushitos, an expansion of its rare & Spanish “Suitcase Gin” program helmed by owner Max Kuller, “Gindustry Mondays” happy hours, and an extra-special kickoff party on Monday, June 6, featuring the return of its longtime bar manager Adam Bernbach for the night!

SPECIAL GINTONICS + SLUSHITOS

Typically served in wine glasses or goblets packed with ice, Spanish Gintonics combine the two base ingredients – gin and tonic – with elaborate garnishes of seasonal fruits, veggies and herbs and spices to amplify the spirit’s botanicals.

Throughout Juniotónico, Estadio will consistently feature three classic Estadio Gintonics, plus a weekly-rotating hyper-seasonal house gintonic which will be available from Monday through Sunday each week.

Classic Gintonics include the Old Raj Blue Label Gin with Orange-Thyme Tonic, Mahon Gin with Lemon-Ginger-White Pepper Tonic, and the Tanqueray 10 Gin with Elderflower-Citrus Tonic. Limited-release tonics will include:

Strawberry Espelette
Cucumber Melon
Blueberry Bay Leaf
Tarragon Basil
Lawn Tennis Tonic (Coconut & Summer Berries)

Estadio will also serve a special Gintonic Slushito for the month, a refreshing frozen gin-spiked cocktail.

SUITCASE GINS

In 2018, Estadio kicked off its inaugural Juniotónico by launching a Rare & Spanish Gin Program, which grew to more than 60 hard-to-find Spanish gins smuggled back by Estadio’s owner Max Kuller during his travels. Kuller has since returned to Spain several times, bringing back new and exciting gins with each visit. Unique new additions include N GIN VLC featuring the famous oranges & mandarins of Valencia, the fino sherry-aged Dry Gin 33, and the Pita made with Lanzarote aloe from the Canary Islands. Specialty gins will be available to enjoy neat or paired with various bottled tonics.

“GINDUSTRY” MONDAYS

Every Monday throughout Juniotónico, Estadio will shine the spotlight on a variety of newly-available Spanish gins at “Gindustry Mondays.”

Since the arrival of Estadio’s first wave of Suitcase Gins, US distributors have recognized the innovative, intriguing, compelling deliciousness of Spanish gins and have worked to bring these gins to the market. Each week from 5pm-9:30pm at the bar, Estadio will feature one of these newer gins, presented in the traditional Spanish style (in a balloon goblet with an assortment of aromatic garnishes), for just $10. Showcased gins include BCN Gin (a Garnatxa grape-based gin), Nordés (cold-distilled in Barcelona), GinRaw and Astobiza (produced by Basque moonshiners).

Juniotónico, Estadio’s 3rd Annual Gintonic Festival, runs from June 6-30. For more information, please visit here.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
