“a secluded back patio with an accessible but sophisticated wine list”

From a press release:

Bottles Wine Garden welcomes guests to a secluded back patio with an accessible but sophisticated wine list curated by Sommelier Erika Parjus. Nestled within 2500 Penn, a Placemakr Experience, Bottles Wine Garden opens in early May.

Centrally located but completely isolated from the hustle of Pennsylvania Avenue, Bottles Wine Garden is an oasis between Georgetown and Foggy Bottom for both serious oenophiles and casual wine enthusiasts alike. Guests order their preferred bottle at the bar and then sit where they like, with a compact
selection of six by-the-glass options.

Designed by //3877, wine bottle walls serve as a backdrop for cozy booths in the 50-seat indoor space that opens to a breezy 70-seat patio featuring lush foliage-covered walls. Multicolor solar lights and teardrop porch swings transport guests into an enchanting garden party, while high-top wine barrels serve as tables for casual gathering. According to Parjus, “my focus is on serious juice without any pretension.”

Spearheading the operation is Angie Duran, formerly of Centrolina and Piccolina, where Parjus was the Beverage Manager. Duran tapped Parjus, CS, to create an accessible yet refined beverage program with a focus on female winemakers, blending her experience from prior stints at Zaytinya and RPM Italian with a harvest season in the vineyards of Dundee Hills, Oregon. The wine garden is a partnership between Edward Welbourn and 2500 Penn, a Placemakr Experience.

Bottles Wine Garden offers an intimate selection of wines sourced from both rising stars and pioneers of the wine world. The 43-bottle list is centered around Parjus’ guiding philosophy of “not all great wine is expensive, and not all expensive wine is great.” The list is curated with an emphasis on low-intervention winemaking from the vineyard to the cellar. Some highlights include Marie Lapierre’s Château Chambon Beaujolais, Filipa Pato’s “Dinamica,” Bairrada Branca, and Ampeleia “Unlitro,” from Italian powerhouse Elisabetta Foradori. The food menu features sharable classics; charcuterie, spreads, and a petite seasonally inspired pizza selection.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
