March 19th “Tenleytown’s Middle C Music Turns 20!”

4530 Wisconsin Ave, NW

From an email:

“From being the first to supply the now-famous “Landfill Harmonic” Paraguayan children with instruments to servicing nearly 100 instruments for D.C.’s Jefferson Academy, over the past 20 years, D.C.’s Middle C Music (4530 Wisconsin Ave. NW) has been a pillar of the local community and beyond. When word got out in 2004 that the nearby Best Buy was going to build a music store, the community successfully organized on Middle C’s behalf and Best Buy pulled out. Since inception, there has been three “Middle C Music Day Recognition” as voted by D.C. City Council.

And on March 19 they’re celebrating 20 years in Tenleytown.

Middle C, D.C’s only full-service music store with lessons and instruments for rent + for sale, was founded with the goal to become a true community-focused music store and it has done just that.

The anniversary block party will include lots of live music from past and present teachers + students, all-day blow-out sale, cake, and multiple instruments will be given away, including a Washburn guitar, to people who send in emails, video or song about their Middle C memories.

From their Facebook event:

“SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 2022 AT 11 AM
Middle C Music’s 20th Anniversary

On Saturday, March 19, Middle C Music will celebrate our 20th anniversary! We are eternally grateful for the support of our friends and neighbors in Tenleytown and beyond, and we hope we can still offer all the musical services you need for years to come.

So — we’re planning a super shindig that will include lots of live music from staff, teachers, students, and YOU if you wish to sit in.

PLUS FREE STUFF! There will be giveaways, including the fabulous Washburn guitar pictured, the very popular Festival series mini-jumbo in tobacco sunburst finish. To win the guitar, send us an email ([email protected]), a video, or even a letter telling us about your memories of Middle C.
See you there!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
