St. Baldrick’s Day at Boundary Stone this Sunday! St. Patrick’s Day specials the 17th!

DC Brau’s Brandon Skall collects a donation from an elderly participant

From an email:

“The neighborhood pub (116 Rhode Island Ave, NW) will host St. Baldrick’s Day on Sunday, March 13. DC Brau’s Brandon Skall will MC the head-shaving event, which raises funds for St. Baldrick’s foundation – an organization dedicated to pediatric cancer research. If you’re not familiar with the annual tradition, Boundary Stone hosts individuals and teams from local breweries and restaurants who volunteer for head (and beard!) shaves during the auction-style event. The Barbers of Hell’s Bottom will once again be volunteering their time to administer the head shaves. There will be a Charity Beer Garden on the patio, where 100% of beer sales will be donated to St. Baldrick’s. Plus, all sales of any Tito’s drink in the pub will go to the organization. Boundary Stone has raised more than $500k for the nonprofit since 2014.

Then on March 17, Executive Chef David Bacot will have three St. Patrick’s Day specials on the menu for the holiday:

Corned Beef and Cabbage Wellington – house-cured corned beef and beer-braised cabbage, puff pastry, roasted Thumbelina carrots, tri-colored potatoes, whole grain mustard cream sauce

Corned Beef and Cabbage Spring Rolls

Bangers and Mash – Schaller and Weber Irish pork sausages, caramelized onion & mushroom Guinness gravy, mashed potatoes, English peas

Guinness Chocolate Sponge Cake – mint buttercream and chocolate batons

Of course, the bar will have Guinness on tap (per usual), along with Six Nations Rugby matches for St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Boundary Stone will open at 12 pm on St. Patrick’s Day with its regular dinner menu, as well.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
