A Proper Farewell planned for Fado at Hi-Lawn “with 2-Week St. Patrick’s Day Rooftop Celebration”

From an email:

“Hi-Lawn, the expansive rooftop bar above Union Market, is collaborating with beloved (and now shuttered) Fado Irish Pub on one of DC’s largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, from March 2-19. Fadó’s DC and Annapolis, MD locations sadly shuttered in 2020 and 2021, when the pandemic prevented a proper farewell, so Hi-Lawn is giving them the ultimate Irish Goodbye, with two weeks of festivities, including Irish dancers, bagpipers, live music, Irish food and drink specials, rugby viewing & more.

Hi-Lawn co-owner Greg Algie was also an owner of Fadó, one of the most known Irish pubs in the country, so St. Patrick’s Day is very near and dear to his heart. “In April 2020, we closed DC’s Chinatown location after 22 years, but the pandemic prevented us from gathering with our longtime friends, neighbors and loyal regulars. After two years, we figured, let’s transport Fado to the roof and give them the proper farewell they deserve, share some pints, some stories and have some ‘great craic’ (‘good times’).”

Bringing traditional Irish pub vibes to an open-air rooftop, Hi Lawn and Fado have an exciting lineup of programming for the month, but two major parties include:

SATURDAY, 3/12 – “FADO PUB PARTY: THE ULTIMATE IRISH GOODBYE”

Fadó fans can join the apt sendoff party, which starts at noon and features Irish dancers, bagpipers, food specials (think: shepherd’s pie and corned beef) and live music all day long. The band schedule includes: Aine O’Doherty Band(12:30-2:30pm), Danny Burns Band (3-5pm), Ciaran Quinn (5:30-7:30pm), So Fetch (8-10pm), and a DJ from 10pm-midnight.

General admission tickets are $20, and VIP tickets are $75 VIP, both which can be purchased via Eventbrite.

THURSDAY 3/17 – ST. PATRICK’S DAY CELEBRATION

And on the actual holiday, Hi-Lawn is opening early at 11am for lunch, and then a ticketed party starts at 2pm, with Irish dancers, bagpipers, and live music all day long, from bands which used to play at Fado. The band schedule includes: Aine O’Doherty Band (2-4pm), Danny Burns Band (4:30-6:30pm), The Breakaways (7-9pm), and a DJ from 9-11pm.

General admission tickets are $20, and VIP tickets are $75 VIP, both which can be purchased via Eventbrite.

Other festive events include:

Sunday, 3/6 (4pm): Perfect Pint Pouring Competition
Come watch DC restaurant industry members old and new compete to pour the perfect pint, to raise funds for St. Baldrick’s and for a chance to win prizes.
Wednesday, 3/9 (7pm): St. Patrick’s Pub Quiz
Join us for a little thinking and drinking, as District Trivia hosts a St. Patrick’s Day-themed trivia night in the heated tent.
Thursday, 3/10 (6-8pm): Live Music Thursday with the Phil Kominski Duo
The Phil Kominsky Duo will perform live on the lawn, playing Irish and U2-inspired tunes from 6-8pm.

And for rugby lovers, Hi-Lawn will air the Six Nations Championship (an annual international rugby union competition between the teams of England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales) live, opening up early and showing the following games on its large projector screen in its heated tent:

Friday, 3/11: Wales vs. France (3pm)
Saturday, 3/12: Italy vs Scotland (9:15am); England vs. Ireland (11:45am)
Super Saturday 3/19: Wales vs. Italy (10:15am); Ireland vs. Scotland (12:45pm); France vs. England (4pm)

Throughout the celebration, traditional Irish pub fare specials will be available, such as Shepherd’s Pie (ground beef, lamb, carrots and potatoes); Corned Beef Sandwiches (with caraway cabbage and mustard on a kaiser roll); Chips (french fries) topped with curry sauce and malt vinegar; and Chicken Tenders with Guinness BBQ.

There will also be a full bar available featuring Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, Guinness Blonde, Jameson and Baileys.

Events are free to attend and open to the public unless otherwise noted as ticketed. Reservations for all festivities (except for March 12 & 17) can be made on Resy here, and walk-ins will also be welcomed if space is available. Guests can access Hi-Lawn through the dedicated rooftop staircase at the front-east entrance to Union Market, adjacent to Suburbia. We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
