Road Closures on 13th Street, NW still in effect in Columbia Heights this morning after shooting last night (Update: Homicide)


7am Tuesday “13th St at Lamont / Kenyon ST NW blocked by Police.”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, February 21, 2022, in the 3200 block of 13th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 8:33 pm, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the sound of a gunshot. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found that the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 33 year-old Dejuan Hailstorks, of Northwest, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.”

Ed. Note: Earlier in the day Monday around 2:15pm there were multiple shots fired reported around 13th and Columbia Road, NW.

A reader reports at 7:30am “what’s going on at 13th and Lamont / Kenyon??? I’m driving to work and it’s all blocked off! Tons of police.”

MPD reported 9pm last night: “Alert: Shooting Investigation in the 1300 block of Lamont Street, NW. No lookout.”


10:25pm Monday “3300 block of 13th Street NW”

“MPD reports the following road closures due to police activity:

-3200-3300 blocks of 13th Street, NW between Kenyon Street, and Park Road, NW

-1100-1200 blocks of Lamont Street, NW between 11th Street, and 13th Street, NW
