The 5pm Post – Go Ape Fundraiser City Kids Wilderness Project Nov. 14th

“Dear PoP,

On May 8th, 2010, we (my wife and I) opened the first Go Ape course in the USA at Rock Creek Regional Park in Rockville, MD. So far, we have had an outstanding year with thousands of Washingtonians swinging from the trees and laughing together with friends and families. As former DC residents (we now live in my parent’s basement in Rockville and rent out our Allison Street home), we know that there are lots of kids who don’t have the opportunity to get out into the outdoors and experience the natural environment away from the buzz and activity of the city streets. As a result, Go Ape has partnered with a great group called City Kids Wilderness Project. City Kids’ Wilderness Project is a Washington DC non-profit that helps get inner city kids into the outdoors. The partnership was a perfect match.

On November 14th, Go Ape will be doing a fundraising day for City Kids Wilderness Project where 100% of proceeds will be donated to this non-profit. Moreover, we will be collecting donations of used gear, packs and clothes for the organization. To make sure the event is a success, we’re also offering discounted tickets ($35 versus $55) to all those that use the code “CKWP14” when booking at www.goape.com or 1-888-520-7322. I was wondering if you could inform the PoP Community of this cause. If you can help us spread the word to make the fundraiser a success, it would be much appreciated as these kids could use our help.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
