“I have some amazing drawing lessons ready for my students to do but I just need help purchasing the supplies.”

Thanks to Joan for passing this fundraiser for Ms. Schorn’s class at Amidon-Bowen Elementary School (401 I St, SW):

“We need your help to continue on with our creative education and project-based learning activities. Most of the students who attend our school come from low-income homes, foster homes, or group homes.

We also have a large number of special education students, so hands-on materials are very important for our students’ growth.

They learn best with hands-on materials and experiences which can be difficult because materials cost money. Our school relies on finding funds from wonderful people to help us purchase the supplies needed in our classrooms.

My Project

My students love learning and making all kinds of art. Art is such an amazing way to teach students to be colorful and creative in any classroom. It is impossible to teach my students successfully when they can’t purchase the materials they need because the majority of my students are from low-income homes.

I would love to give every one of my students the chance to use various styles of markers in the art classroom.

We have been talking a lot about various lines artists use in art. My students have been very excited to explore my personal set of double-sided markers and we are ready to have a classroom set for the art room.

I have some amazing drawing lessons ready for my students to do but I just need help purchasing the supplies.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
