“someone pulled up in a car and fired at least ten shots”

via google maps

“Dear PoPville,

I thought I would write in. Around 1 am last night, at the intersection of 8th and E NW, someone pulled up in a car and fired at least ten shots. I live in an apartment building at that corner, and heard it very clearly. Police were on site about 5 minutes later.

They taped off the intersection and were marking and collecting the shell casings (and taking reports from the neighbors who went out to give statements). This normally feels like a very safe area, so it was alarming to hear gunshots like that on a Wednesday night!”

Another reader reports:

“I also live at the corner of 8th and E St NW and was woken up by 15-18 rounds of fully automatic rifle fire in a single burst… then a brief pause of 2 seconds, and then a single car sped away. I’ve previously only heard full auto in combat zones overseas. I am familiar with firearms and I recognized the sound to be from a rifle, not a pistol. We called 911 immediately and MPD arrived 5 minutes later at 1:35 am, cordoned off the area, and processed the scene, departing at around 2:45 am.

Interestingly when I called the MPD Tip Line today to provide my recollection, the MPD operator had no record of this incident in their computer system.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
