6:30pm Shooting near U Street Last Night, Reader reported shots fired in Eckington around 9pm, Stabbing Homicide in Shaw

A reader reported at 6:32pm last night: “I heard about 5-6 gunshots from 14&V a few minutes ago. Sounded at least a block away. Hearing lots of sirens in the area now”

From MPD: “Alert: Shooting Investigation at 1829 hours in the 1800 block of 13th St NW. No Lookout
DO NOT TAKE ACTION CALL 911″

A reader reported 9:18pm:

Three shots fired around 9:00 from an alley in eckington. Between Lincoln street and 1st NE Confirmed with neighbors too. Def gunshots and definitely in the alley.”

Regarding the early morning sirens in Shaw, MPD reported: “Alert: Stabbing Investigation at 02:43 hours in the 700 block of T Street, NW. No Lookout”

Update from MPD: “Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, in the 1900 block of 7th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 2:39 am, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, the members located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent stab wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where despite all life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 36 year-old Musse Belete, of no fixed address.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
