Does the US Postal Service have a new policy on how we close envelopes? I was at the US Post Office on 14th Street waiting in line and I realized one of my card was not sealed. So since I was already in line, I licked it closed.
The postal worker saw me and yelled across the room – you can’t do that. I’m not going to accept that envelope.
When it was my turn I asked the staff how long I would have to wait before coming back to send the card. She said she would not accept a locked envelope and I could buy a new envelope. Her coworker added that I had to use a “blue glue stick”.
Is this a new policy?
This post office is the worst. I have always had issues at this location. Last holiday season one of the women yelled at almost every customer. One can’t use the counter to address things, so Id you want to buy an envelope – you have to get in line twice – once to buy and a second time after you have addressed it – not inside – presumably at your home.
As a federal employee I try to support the US Postal Service but it’s really hard when the staff seems to enjoy making things difficult.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
