“Required to vacate my apartment, but now the landlord and renter’s insurance say they aren’t paying for my lodging”

I’m at a bit of a standstill with regards to my apartment. I was told to vacate the apt due to a mold situation stemming from a burst pipe on 9/13. My landlord initially said they’d cover the lodging but after realizing I had renter’s insurance she said I would need to go through them. I called my insurance and the initial consultant said that it will likely be covered under the “Loss of Use”.

I opened the claim, spoke with an agent and she said she’d contact the landlord to talk about the process. A few days go by and I go to upload my receipts from the hotels I had to stay in. I see my claim is closed and I call my renter’s insurance. My agent said that the landlord said they are prorating my rent and that they are paying for my lodging, but the landlord emailed me saying renters insurance confirmed they would be paying. At this point, I’m extremely confused and the 3 of us get on the phone (me, my landlord, and insurance agent0. Basically, the insurance agent says that if they prorate my rent I’m only entitled to the value of that day for lodging. This is almost laughable at this point because of the costs of hotels in DC. The landlord says they never said they were going to pay for my lodging. At this point, no one is going to pay for my lodging despite the fact I’m unable to return to the apartment. This is likely to go on for another 2 weeks.

Does anyone have experience with this situation? Should I look to secure a lawyer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.”
