“The team behind Dupont Circle’s Levantine inspired ala (1320 19th Street NW) has converted part of the first floor space into ala coffee + more. A coffee shop for the neighborhood, ala coffee and more will sell pastries, teas and coffees, highlighting traditional ingredients of the Levantine region. House made coffee includes drip, espresso, Turkish and pour over versions, with additions like ground cardamom, rosehip and dried lavender leaves and Levantine flavors like orange blossom and elderflower can also be added to tea. In addition to coffee & tea, they will also offer house made bakery items like the Zaatar to my Labneh, a croissant dusted with za’atar and filled with labneh and the Halva Nice Day a caraway cinnamon dusted halva croissant, as well as scones, like Heavenly Tahini, a walnut, tahini maple scone.

Grab and Go food includes dips, spreads and sandwiches, like one featuring mackerel, labneh, sumac, pickled onions and frisée and the Caprese, with feta, tomatoes, zoug, pomegranate molasses, sumac, mint and parsley). Homemade non alcoholic drinks include Limon Sumac (sumac infused lemonade) and Orange Blossom Iced Tea.

A grocery area will sell spices, Turkish coffee and tea, cheese and olives. Wine, beer and cocktail pouches will also be available for purchase. Free drip coffee will be available to all customers through the end of September.

About ala: ala, which translates in Turkish to “a blending of colors,” is a one-of-a-kind Levantine dining experience, located in the heart of Dupont Circle. Previously known as Ankara, ala debuted in March 2021 and its cuisine melds the flavors of Turkey, Syria, Israel, Lebanon and beyond (known as the Levant region), an area of the world that has both a long history and a colorful past. In addition to a la carte plates, prix fixe menus are available for both brunch and dinner. The space has gone through a revamp as well, with expansive indoor dining, along with a private room for 200, as well as a patio which can be heated during the colder months. ala’s cocktail menu was carefully curated with wines from the likes of Georgia, Israel, Lebanon, and Italy and features cocktails adorned with everything from turmeric and sumac to Za’atar syrup and orange blossom water. ala is open daily for dinner, as well as weekend brunch. Happy Hour is offered from Monday- Thursday, from 4 pm – 6 pm.
