“Lulu’s Winegarden Launches “Golden Hour”: a Sunny Weekday Happy Hour with Queso, Wines, Ranch Water + Good Vibes”

From a press release:

“Lulu’s Winegarden, casual southwest-inspired wine bar from the team behind Michelin-honored Royal, has just launched its first-ever happy hour, “Golden Hour.” The sunny weekday happy hour, hosted Tuesday through Friday everywhere throughout the restaurant, features specials on some of Lulu’s best-selling bites (including a new limited-season hatch chile burger), wines by the glass and bottle, cocktails, craft drafts and Mexican beers.

The U Street wine bar-meets-beer garden, which opened just one month before the pandemic, is thrilled to bring a bit of sunshine to Washingtonians in the form of its sunny, happy Golden Hour. Food specials range from $6-$10, while Lulu’s already-affordable wines by the bottle are just $35, and glasses are $9. Ranch Water, a cult-favorite cocktail hailing from West Texas, is just $9, while craft drafts are $7, and Tecate tallboys are $6. Unique to most happy hours, Golden Hour can be enjoyed everywhere throughout the restaurant (including Lulu’s three charming plant-filled patios) on weekdays (Tuesday-Thursday from 4-6pm, Friday from 3-5pm).

Known for chef/partner Cable Smith’s reimagined dinner party fare with hints of the southwest, many of Lulu’s most-loved dishes are available during Golden Hour, including White Queso with freshly-fried heirloom corn tostadas for dipping ($9, reg. $12); a fiery Whipped Feta dip spiced up with hatch chile harissa ($9, reg. $12); fancy sauce-topped shoestring House Fries ($6, reg. $8); a fresh, greens-packed Avocado Lime Caesar ($8, reg. $11); and a new happy-hour only Hatch Chile Burger, griddled with melted kraft cheese, fancy sauce and peak-season hatch chiles from New Mexico ($10).

Wine lovers can choose from 20+ interesting, diverse wines from small producers, all just $35 per bottle. Wines include a slightly-effervescent txakoli rosé, a carbonic French Carignan, a crisp and mineral-driven Muscadet, and a food-friendly côtes du rhône. And for those who prefer to enjoy a glass at a time, nine wines by are just $9 each by the glass.

One of Lulu’s most popular cocktails, the Working Chef’s Ranch Water (a riff on the west Texas cult favorite cocktail with pineapple-infused tequila, house lime cordial and Topo Chico) is just $9 during Golden Hour; plus a rotating craft draft (currently Solace Brewing Company’s Crazy Pils) for $7 and Tecate tallboys for $6.

Golden Hour at Lulu’s Winegarden is hosted Tuesday-Thursday from 4-6pm and Friday from 3-5pm. Guests can make reservations via Resy, or walk-in if space is available.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
