“Help Rebuild Our Greenhouses- Pleitez Produce Farm”

via GoFundMe

Thanks to Cait for sending “flagging this GoFundMe for a popular @FRESHFARMDC farmer who does a lot for the community”

The GoFundMe says:

“My name is Astrid Pleitez and my family and I own and operate a diversified vegetable farm in the Northern Neck of Virginia. We sell primarily at farmers markets and work hard to feed our community, including regular donations to local food pantries such as Manna Food Center, Food For Others, Arlington Food Assistance Center, Our Lady Queen of Peace and participation in FRESHFARM’s Pop Up Food Hub.

In May this year, a violent thunderstorm hit our farm and destroyed our two main 30’x100′ high tunnel greenhouses. We wonder if a small tornado touched down on our farm! As you can see, the metal frames have been irreparably bent and destroyed. There is very little to salvage and rebuild with.

We use these high tunnel greenhouses to extend our growing seasons, allowing us to offer certain crops both earlier and later in the year. Without them, we will have a shorter season at farmers markets and we will not be able to donate as much food to our community in need.

To catch up this season, we need to rebuild and plant these greenhouses ASAP. If not, we will all feel the loss in revenue and production next year.

Your donation will help us continue to serve the communities we’ve fed for the last 20 years, and we will be forever grateful for your generosity.

Thank you,

Astrid, on behalf of Pleitez Produce Farm”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
