Salazar, Tex-Mex, coming to former El Centro space on 14th Street

1819 14th Street, NW

From an email:

“Mission Group, DC-based owners of big bars and restaurants, will add another location to its roster in late 2021 when Salazar, a, 8,000 square-foot three-level venue with four bars levels and a rooftop deck, opens at 1819 14th Street. The location formerly housed El Centro.

As with other Mission spots, Mission Navy Yard, Mission Dupont, The Admiral and Hawthorne, Salazar will be bar-focused.

Co-owners Fritz Brogan and Reed Landry operate by the theory that “it is more fun to eat in a bar than to drink in a restaurant” so all of their locations feature large bar areas with some dining included.

According to Brogan, Salazar will serve Tex-Mex cuisine with an expansive list of tequilas, margaritas and cocktails. It will feature multiple spaces for private events and groups of all sizes. On weekends and holidays, DJs will spin in the basement dance floor offering a nightlife experience. The cocktail menu will focus on presenting rare and unique tequilas at reasonable prices. Nightly happy hour and bottomless brunch (including tequila and margaritas, of course!) are in the works.

Mission Group owns and operates some of the city’s largest and most popular bars and nightlife venues. Mission Group designs properties with large roof decks and patios to foster a vibrant bar scene, comfortable dining and versatile private event spaces. Founded in 2014 by Fritz Brogan and Reed Landry, Mission Group venues include Mission Dupont, Hawthorne, Mission Navy Yard and The Admiral”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
