“Olympic Opening Ceremonies Viewing Party?”

near 12th St. NW & Madison Dr. NW photo by Jonathan Edelman

Ed. Note: Regarding the olympic rings pictured above, from NBC Universal: “The “Rings Across America” experience will open to the public from 11am-8pm on Monday and will also be open on Tuesday from 10am-6pm.”

“Dear PoPville,

The Tokyo Olympic opening ceremonies are airing at 7am ET on Friday because of the time difference. Are any bars in DC opening early for a viewing party? Not saying I’ll necessarily want a beer that early (Or maybe I will. Game time decision.), but it would be nice to watch with a crowd.”

One email I got from Commissary (but please add your recs in the comments):

“Logan Circle favorite neighborhood restaurant, Commissary (1443 P Street NW), will open at 7 am on Friday, July 23 with all TVs and a big screen showing the Summer Olympic Games opening ceremonies.

The restaurant’s full breakfast menu will be available along with Chef Tom Crenshaw’s “All American Breakfast” special – a red, white and blue tribute to our USA athletes, three mini-French toasts stuffed with sweet Ricotta cheese and raspberries topped with blackberries picked from Commissary’s Eatwell Farm in LaPlata.

The games will be showcased at Commissary throughout the Olympics. After the opening day, Commissary will open daily at 8 am serving daily breakfast and bottomless brunch, lunch and dinner.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
