“Dear PoPville,
I am looking for some guidance on registering a canoe in DC. I am purchasing a canoe from Craigslist in MD which has not been previously registered and has no bill of sale. I am a DC resident and plan to use primarily in DC.
DC has documentation readily available, but the title needs to be notarized. It seems unrealistic to have a notary at the transaction.
The SELLER signs ownership of his/her vessel over to the purchaser and must provide a bill of sale with purchaser name, purchase date and purchase amount of the vessel (excluding a trailer). Some titles have provided a section for this purpose. The seller should protect him/her self by notifying the state’s registration department of the change of ownership and remove any of the current decals.
Any guidance on how to register. Additionally, the email for the DC Boat Registrar (page 3 of boat guide, Linda Fabrie) bounces back as it is invalid.”
