What the heck happened with the entry process at Banneker Pool this weekend?

“Dear PoPville,

I went to Banneker pool Sunday and there was a long line at around 11AM. Figured it was just busy for the 4th. Got to the line and we were being told to register for our DPR pass. Everyone in line given a piece of paper with QR code to scan and then register on the site.

However, once registered, when you got to the front of the line, they took your ID and had to… I dunno? Type in your info slowly to match it to your registration? It took around 7-10 minutes per person. One woman said she was already in line for a whole hour, and the line had barely moved. I was there about 20 minutes and only 2 people were registered.

From Georgia Avenue I could see that the pool was nearly empty! Why why why are they doing this on the 4th of July?”

Emma wrote: “you have to show you’ve created a DPR account to get into the pools now. There’s a long line at Banneker of people registering”

Alisha also wrote: “this Banneker pool situation is ridiculous. We’ve been waiting almost an hour and still not to the door. No announcement to the line on what’s happening or how to register either.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
