Fundraiser for “a young, single mother and entrepreneur opening a new coffeehouse in Northeast DC, showcasing Wards 5 and 6.”

Thanks to Christina for passing on the GoFundMe:

“I am a young, single mother and entrepreneur opening a new coffeehouse in Northeast DC, showcasing Wards 5 and 6.

God has placed this amazing opportunity in my heart to open and give back to the communities that make up the majority of Washington DC and that make this city the amazing city it is today.

After experiencing homelessness for myself in DC, I knew I needed to make a difference in the lives of others experiencing the same issues I had, especially single, homeless mothers and their children. I plan to have my coffee shop in Northeast’s Union Market area,

a thriving and historic area for the African American community in Ward 5. My goal is to gain $250,000 to cover many important materials necessary for start-up, including a well-working expresso machine, business insurance and the like, build-out, and my first set of bulk coffee and materials, including handmade coffee mugs for customer use.

Brij Coffeehouse & Juicebar expressively values connection, with a come-as-you-are attitude, placing strong emphasis on bridging people and communities together with quality coffee that makes a difference. Brij is proud to serve great coffee, fresh juices, delicious food, and local wine to our neighbors in order that we may also serve our un-housed neighbors in DC, becoming an fundamental part of fighting and eradicating homelessness in our neighborhood one cup of coffee at a time.

What I love about Brij is that its existence goes beyond coffee. Brij hopes to provide financial help to families and local shelters that can assist them in the transition process by helping with purchasing everything from furniture, to household supplies, to rent for up to three months, allowing them to transition with ease. In the future, we will be accepting gently used, donated furniture and household supplies for homes in need. Your support will mean so much to so many. Won’t you please help? Any amount will make a difference.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
