“apparently this happens at this gas station ALL OF THE TIME.”

“Dear PoPville,

I guess it’s a good PSA more than anything…

Last Thursday I was one of several people robbed at the Shell Station at 12th and Otis St NE in Brookland. I unlocked my car to switch credit cards, since the one I was planning on using was not able to be read. Unbeknownst to me, a kid had snuck around my passenger side and opened the door, such that it was not able to be locked again. When I finished pumping gas and went to get in, the kid was inside my car, with my purse in his hands, rifling through other things in the car to take. In addition to my purse, he got my car/house keys, iPhone and my wallet with my ID containing my address. I stupidly chased the kid but he got into a waiting black, Mercedes crossover with MD temp tags and they sped north on 12th St NE. About 10 minutes after the theft, I started getting fraud calls to my Apple watch from the Walmart on Riggs Road. They were able to make about $4000 in purchases between all of my cards in my wallet.

I’d love for the PoPville community to know that after talking to the police, neighbors and posting on NextDoor and Facebook, apparently this happens at this gas station ALL OF THE TIME. This is also a good opportunity to remind people to lock their doors when getting gas, to take purses/ bags with them or store them out of sight, even for the 3 minutes it takes to get gas, and to never rely on biometric locking mechanisms (handprint/fingerprint lock/unlock). Lastly, if anyone finds a keychain with a Boston University lanyard and a Toyota fob (deactivated) amongst other things, or a woman’s wallet with schnauzers on it laying on the road between Otis and Riggs Road, please let me or the police know!”

If anyone finds any of the items above please email [email protected] so I can let OP know.

“Dear PoPville, I live in Mt. Pleasant and my trash hasn’t been picked up in a while and my recycling hasn’t been collected in a month (maybe more?).

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
