“The National Cherry Blossom Festival today announced the launch of an online auction to find permanent homes for five of its 26 Art in Bloom sculptures. The Art in Bloom Auction is open now at https://ArtinBloomNCBF.givesmart.com. Bidding will close at 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 15. Proceeds from the sale of the sculptures will support National Cherry Blossom Festival programs. A portion will be contributed to the Trust for the National Mall’s Cherry Tree Endowment.

The Art in Bloom exhibition premiered on March 20 as a signature program of the 2021 National Cherry Blossom Festival. Presented by Amazon, Art in Bloom showcased the visual artistry of 25 talented artists on 26 giant cherry blossom sculptures, bringing joy, whimsy, and the celebration of spring into all eight wards of D.C., plus National Harbor in Maryland and the Aurora Hills and National Landing neighborhoods in Virginia (Arlington) for more than 10 weeks.

“The Art in Bloom sculptures radiated springtime across the District and beyond, and now it’s time to find permanent homes for these one-of-a-kind creations, said Diana Mayhew, president and CEO of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. “To keep the spirit and joy of the Festival in the community all year long, we’ve been working with community organizations to ensure at least one Art in Bloom sculpture will remain in each D.C. ward. Other Art in Bloom sculptures have been acquired by organizations, businesses, and private citizens in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, and we’ll be talking more about that – and sharing their noteworthy stories – in the coming weeks.”

Throughout the Art in Bloom exhibition, the 26 unique, creative sculptures inspired countless fun and memorable moments for residents of and visitors to the D.C. area as they were invited to go on a Blossom Hunt – finding the 3D sculptures, posting photos to social media, and tagging their posts with the #ArtInBloom hashtag. The Blossom Hunt web page has been accessed more than 160,000 times.

The five sculptures featured in the Art in Bloom Auction were chosen for their dynamic aesthetics and one-of-a-kind interpretations that celebrate the treasured cherry blossoms and convey messages of hope and positivity.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
