“the first Wegmans in DC, scheduled to open in 2022”

3900 Wisconsin Avenue, NW

This edition of Wegmans Watch from a press release “City Ridge is Topping Out!”:

“Roadside Development and NASH, are pleased to announce that City Ridge will top out this week. The last concrete deck for the project was poured on May 18, 2021. This last deck sits on the south end of the lawn in front of the former Fannie Mae building that is currently being redeveloped as the future home of International Baccalaureate’s Global Centre for the Americas. The first of six residential buildings located behind the Fannie Mae building topped out in November 2020, and the last residential building topped out the first week of May 2021.

The development team will celebrate this milestone with a Community Vaccine Clinic. The DC Mobile Vaccine Clinic will be located on Wisconsin Avenue in front of City Ridge on May 27th from 9 AM to 1PM. “The clinic will be open to anyone and everyone,” said Richard Lake, managing partner Roadside Development. “Our construction is about to go interior, and we realized many of the team members are not vaccinated. We are bringing the vaccine to them as a means to say thank you and ensure our team remains safe for the remainder of the job.” Many people working in the construction trades have not been able to get vaccinated due to their hours of work which often conflict with clinic hours.

City Ridge is coordinating with the District of Columbia Government as part of the #TakeTheShotDC campaign. The Clinic is being hosted by the Office of the Mayor, DC Health, and the Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development.

City Ridge is the redevelopment of the former Fannie Mae Headquarters, located at 3900 Wisconsin Avenue, NW. The ten-acre site is being redeveloped into a walkable urban village with a mix of residential, commercial and retail uses. According to Richard Lake, Managing Partner, Roadside Development, LLC. this is a significant milestone for this project. “The progress of the project will accelerate over the next few months and our vision for a walkable village environment will become evident. Every project has its unique challenges, and it has been amazing to watch how the entire team has collaboratively navigated the challenges related to the pandemic.”

The initial buildings comprising City Ridge are set to complete in the second quarter of 2022. Parallel to this is the planned opening of Wegmans. The 82,000 SF store, Wegmans’ first in the District, will be incorporated into the iconic brick building which fronts on Wisconsin and is the centerpiece of the new “Urban Village.”

“We are redefining this site with a diverse mix of uses and tenants that are truly complementary and set in a village environment that will inspire walkability, connectivity, creativity, and generate pride for the entire community,” said Rob Wolcheski, Project Manager, Roadside Development. “The master plan creates a village that will connect City Ridge to the surrounding communities on Wisconsin Avenue and honors the character and craftsmanship of the historic property’s founding vision.” According to Wolcheski the team’s commitment to excellence and sustainability has driven a vision that has resulted in drawing some of the best retailers and employers in the country to the project.

The adaptive reuse of the former Fannie Mae property has achieved a number of firsts and milestones since its inception including:

City Ridge is the first project in DC to be designated LEED (V4) for Neighborhood Development Gold.
It will be home to the first Wegmans in DC, scheduled to open in 2022.
The Global Centre for the Americas for International Baccalaureate will soon call this home, and was the largest commercial lease executed in NW DC in 2019.
Two subcontractors – Berkel and MD Fabricators – won the 2020 Washington Building Congress Craftsmanship Award for the foundation lowering work under the historic building to accommodate Wegmans new store.
Three heritage trees were relocated from the back of the site to the front, and now frame the historic building.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
