“Unidentified flying object over Columbia Heights”

“Dear PoPville,

I saw something weird in the sky and wanted to see if anyone else in the columbia heights may have spotted it. Around 10:45pm on 4/28 i saw an object flying pretty low to the ground, coming from the children’s national hospital area and flying West across the sky. It was mostly dark but had red lights on either side that were really spread far apart, almost like a plane’s wings, but i couldn’t see anything in the middle and there weren’t lights in the middle. The way it was traveling, the lights were in the front and back not side to side like for a plane.

It was also flying too close to the ground to be a plane, it almost looked like it was skimming over the treetops, so i thought it was a helicopter but the two lights were so far apart and it was shaped so different than a helicopter.

I also didn’t hear any noise. My thought was maybe it was a drone, but if so it would have to be huge. My guess is the lights were something like 20 feet apart. There could be a perfectly logical explanation for this or my mind was playing tricks on me, but it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen (i’ve lived here a while), and with DC being so strict about air space it definitely felt weird.

I should mention my boyfriend saw it too and also felt it was really weird.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
