Officially Time to Stop Leaving Your Car Running Even For Just a Sec

thanks to Denis for the mashup

From MPD: “Hop-In Motor Vehicle Thefts Last Night

At approximately 12:10 AM, in the alley of the 200 block of 10th St. SE, a victim left his car running when he got out to open his parking gate. An unknown suspect then entered his vehicle and drove away. The victim suffered some injury when he tried to hold onto the car as it pulled away and fell.

At approximately 12:28 AM, in the 900 block of H St. NE, a victim left his car running when he parked and got out to throw away some trash. A juvenile suspect then entered his vehicle and attempted to drive away but was unable to put the car in gear.

The victim confronted the suspect who fled on foot but was stopped by officers that were in the block. The juvenile was placed under arrest for Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft and Unlawful Entry of a Vehicle.

The First District, the city, and our metropolitan region as a whole continue to see an elevated level of car thefts–many of which involve cars that are left running or keys that are left in cars. Many of these cars are then used in additional, sometimes violent crimes. Please always be aware of your surroundings and ensure that you turn off and lock your car even if only getting out for a moment, and help us get the word out by asking your family, friends, co-workers, contractors, and delivery drivers to do the same.”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
